KorX, Nejc Gilčvert s.p.
When a passion for technology, nature, and adrenaline turns into a business, this is the story of the company KorX and its founder Nejc Gilčvert.
Nejc Gilčvert, a mechanical engineer with a passion for speed, nature and technology, has combined all his passions in the KorX project – a boutique brand of premium custom electric bicycles. His story begins where mass production ends: with a personal approach, precision and the feeling that each bike has its own character.
We talked to Nejc about his journey, challenges, and plans for the future.
The beginning of the journey - What were your first steps?
“The love of speed and technology has been with me since childhood,” says Nejc. He grew up next to a motocross track and was always looking for the limits of what was possible on two wheels or on a snowboard on snowy slopes off the beaten track, among motorbikes and tools, and later he upgraded his technical skills by studying mechanical engineering. After years of working as a technologist in Austria, he began to miss what had always driven him – creating with his own hands and being in touch with nature. When he first tried an electric bike, he was impressed by the combination of power, lightness and silence. Instead of buying one, he – like a true engineer – put it together himself. A product was created from simple components that sparked the idea for a business.
What were your first steps?
“I started in the basement of a block of flats – without instructions, without mentors, just an idea, engineering knowledge and stubbornness,” he recalls. He ordered the first components from abroad, with no guarantee that they would be useful. The first bike was the result of experimentation, but even then it aroused people’s interest. Questions, compliments and orders came sooner than he expected. The biggest challenge, however, was balancing business, work and family and building a brand from scratch.
What was a turning point for you?
The moment of beginning was the first bike he built for himself and he was thrilled by it – its power, responsiveness, silence and the feeling of control while riding. Then the next breakthrough was the first video posted online, that “small moment with a big impact”. People responded, started asking questions and ordering – even from abroad. When he received his first order from Bulgaria, he realized that I had something special.
What were the biggest lessons on your journey?
The journey was not easy. One of the orders for frames from abroad ended in a loss of almost 5,000 euros due to very poor quality. “At that time, I could have given up, but I was lucky – I had my partner Špela by my side, who believed in me.” Today, Nejc relies on proven suppliers and his own knowledge. The biggest lesson? Don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Take it step by step.
Where are you today and where are you going tomorrow?
Under the KorX brand, he now creates high-performance custom electric bikes – for lovers of terrain, speed and adventure. The customer chooses the color, components and performance – and Nejc builds a bike that perfectly meets their wishes. Together with the customer, they create a unique bike designed for demanding terrain and adrenaline riding.
He also runs Treedee.si with his partner, where they use 3D printing to create unique technical solutions and gifts. In the coming year, he wants to launch a new line of bicycles, expand cooperation with tourism providers, improve his workshop and increase his presence at trade fairs. His goal is to offer the customer the best he can - and above all, something different, durable and with a soul.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs today?
"Don't wait for everything to be 'perfect.' Use what you know - and sell from the start."
Listen to the market and people, but keep your vision. Don't waste energy on "couch masters", listen to those who have experience. Don't take criticism personally - take it as a tool for growth. The greatest strength of a small entrepreneur is speed, flexibility and authenticity.«
Your motto?
"In Koroška, we don't make serial stories - we make authentic ones."
"The best ideas are born from passion – but they only survive with courage and perseverance."
The KorX company is proof that a passion for technology and movement can create a story that combines innovation, nature and authenticity. In the MPIK environment, Nejc Gilčvert develops electric bicycles that exceed customer expectations - and proves that we can also drive the future on our own in Koroška.
